Desert Rock Festival a Success with Metal Fans
Attendance figures have been released for this year’s Desert Rock Festival, held March 6th at Dubai Festival City. The event attracted over 7400 metal heads who don’t usually get the opportunity to see international bands performing in the Middle East.
The Desert Rock Festival is an annual event in Dubai which celebrates “the different styles of rock and metal music.” It is the only rock festival of its kind in the entire Middle East. 2009 marked the 6th gathering of rock musicians and fans in the United Arab Emirates.
This year organizers chose to focus on one genre of rock music: heavy metal. With a slogan of “Metal Lives,” the event showcased eight bands including international favorites Opeth, Chimaira, and Arch Enemy. Local death metal band Nervecell was a hit as were the two winners of the United We Rock competition: Scarab and Hatred. Other bands to perform were August Burns Red and Motorhead.
Events such as this draw not only audiences but attention to the excellent facilities in Dubai for concerts and festivals. Concert stages are state-of-the art and vending areas are well organized and easily accessible. Fans will easily find a five star hotel in Dubai or take advantage of the many hotels, hostels, and restaurants in the area.
Musicians and fans alike raved about the event on their blogs and websites, which leads organizers to predict that the 2010 Desert Rock Festival will be even bigger and better.
