A touch of Moonlit Goa

My favorite interesting topographic feature of South Goa is the Chandranath hill , strategically formed and centrally located. There are actually two hillocks with an almost uniformed contour and a majestic triangular elevation. I calculated that one hillock is approximately 300 meters and the second one is about 350 meters high. I was told that Chandranath hill was originally known as Prithviparvat (paroda hills). The magnificent peaks of these two hills commands the fertile plains of Salcete and that of Quepem talukas between Mulem and Ambalulin and also Talavardem to Sarzora. I can even say that I could look over all of Goa from the these hills.
Chandranath hill is not hard to get to from the Goa Hotels . And there are plenty of places to eat and relax while exploring. I found that I preferred just sitting on the outside patio of a cafe’ I was having lunch and simply staring at the splendor of these two hills. I patron sitting next to me told me that a meteorite fell on Chandranath mountain during the pre-historic period. He also, said that during the Sata-Vahana period the Bhoja kings developed and built a temple at the impact site of the meteorite. Today, the temple is known as Chador at the foot of the Paroda hill. The temple is still active with the Chandrashila: the iron-meteorite worship. The temple also has the famous Shiva Linga Shive Linga is supposed to ooze water with the touch of moonlight. These hill are definitely unique, I have found no comparable landmarks in South Goa. I have to agree with my informative new found friend sitting next to me at the cafe that in terms of topography, location, natural charm and the shear antiquity of Chandranath hill only adds to the magically mystery of this place, a place that is awesome and a place to visit.
