You better Google yourself

Have you sat back and wondered why you never get a call back for any job you apply for, or why do you always get stood up for blind dates? It may be time to get that name of yours into Google and see what pops up. Because what pops up after your name is put into a search engine could really be influencing what is going on in your life.

Do you have a Facebook? You better be sure that that thing is set to private my friend; otherwise it could be giving people the complete wrong impression about you.

Online reputation management
is not a new concept; there are entire companies that specialize in it. It has become so important that businesses are hiring people to do it for them. Most companies do it along with search engine optimization services. If a Chicago web development company is going to hire a company to manage their reputation online, it may be because they want their company to appear higher in search engine results than a competitor, and really it is the same way with individuals. Typing your name into Google is a way to see how you appear to the public when somebody types your name in.

You are asking yourself, if how you appear online really makes a difference to others? And the answer is definitely yes.  The internet is a powerful researching tool that a lot of people tend to trust blindly. But you cannot believe everything you read online because anyone can write anything on the internet. And the problem is that anyone could be writing just about anything about you. Now, this tends to happen more with businesses and individuals in business, but it is something to be considered.

So Google yourself, are you happy with the results that come up?
