A Hong Kong Tai Chi Vacation
When one wanders through the streets of Hong Kong in the morning hours, one may find that there are many people practicing Tai Chi in the parks, in their yards, or the the terraces of apartment buildings. The practice of Tai Chi has been an essential element in the daily lives of most people of the city. Many a Hong Kong hotel, resort or spa will often offer classes or retreats for westerners who are interested in learning this form of ancient Chinese practice.
Living in any city is stressful. Daily experiences in the workplace combined with the hectic, fast paced areas of most downtown sectors can leave one drained, cranky, and feeling just a bit unhealthy. Tai Chi is one of the most ideal forms of releasing this stress, and a great way to exercise and unwind. The movements are fluid, they are not particularly strenuous on the body, and they are easy to learn. They are designed to create fluidity in the body and to restore the balance of the Yin and Yang energies in the mind and the body.
So popular is the study of Tai Chi with the tourists that visit the city, that the Tourism Board of Hong Kong themselves offers free classes, four days out of the week, for beginners. Classes take place in two locations in the city, The Peak Tower Rooftop, which sits high above the city ofHong Kong on the incredible Victoria Peak.
This offers not only the peaceful surroundings of the peak, the green, lush and tropical landscapes, but incredible views of the city ofHong Kong below. The other location for the free classes is the Avenue of the Stars. Here too, there are incredible views of the Hong Kong skyline and one can practice in peace, just outside of the hustle and the bustle of the metropolis.
