Easy Car Maintenance Done at Home
Two aspects of car care that are very important to keep and eye on are the oil levels of your vehicle, and the condition of your tires. These are two things that can be considered as DIY auto repair, or “Do It Yourself” care maintenance. The oil change is one of the single most important check-up for you to keep up on. The oil lubricates, cools, and cleans almost every part of your car’s engine. When the oil becomes too old, this will as well, affect all those engine parts in negative ways, causing problems that are so much more expensive than an change costs.
By looking into small engine repair manuals, you will find that while there are discount oil changes to be found in the commercial shops, changing your oil at home is not that difficult and will cost about half that of a professional job. Without sufficient and clean oil the engine may repeatedly over heat or may perhaps even seize up entirely, with some of the engine parts even melting together. This in most cases will cause the necessary replacement of the entire engine.
Many drastic consequences can occur when one does not keep as well, on the care of the tires of their car or motorcycle. Manuals provide guidelines as to the proper air pressure one should maintain in their tires, and it is advised to check that pressure once a month. The tires will have an affect on the handling of the vehicle and its safety as well as affecting the gas mileage. The tires are responsible for just about every part of driving ability, from the ability to start and stop to the roughness or smoothness of the ride.
Improperly filled tires will also cause the tread to wear unevenly, which too is not safe, but can be a costly expense so easily avoided with diligent checking and monitoring. If it seems strange, or if you notice small differences in the way that your car is handling, and you can not see any reason as too why, most tire shops will test the tires for you and find out if anything is truly wrong with them. Both the regular oil change and the constant checking of the tires are two aspects of car maintenance that one can do easily from home, and it is well worth the time it takes to do so.
