Sydney is one of the most interesting cultural meccas in the world.  One of Australia’s largest cities, it is a major artistic and economic center, and attracts some of the best minds on the continent.  There are always loads of activities to choose from, and something surely for every member of the family.  There are galleries, museums, and sight-seeing tours by day.  At night there are plenty of excellent restaurants, great pubs, and excellent nightclubs.  Theatre and dance are also very big here, with mainstream entertainments and cutting edge works.  One of Sydney’s most eccentric performance artists is the hard-to-categorize Rufus Surrealo.
He grew up outside of Sydney, and went to college in Australia, and has been working in the experimental art circuit for most of his adult life.  Surrealo works in many different media, from installation to sound art, to working with found objects, and combining it with a visual art background to create a kind of total experience.  The viewer gets immersed in the work, like into another world.  This is a very specific kind of hybrid performance, and Rufus Surrealo is paving the way for others like him.  He is also involved with the South Western Artist Network, and curated the Sydney Art Party.  Visitors here looking to plug into the underground art network will want to keep an eye peeled for this reclusive madman with spiritual visions and a great sense of humor.
