Total Car Care in Hot Environments

There are many myths in regards to the care of ones automobile and misunderstandings that are easily cleared up. Living in the desert environment, one experiences the monsoon season. This can produce dust storms out of now where, making a visibility in some cases, one foot. Torrential rain-pour and electrical storms also come at a moments notice. For some people, it is better to park somewhere safe and wait out the dangerous effects, than to continue on in such weather.
One friend asked whether this was a safe practice, concerned that his chrome rims and the metal car he was sitting in would attract lightening. A little research on line was all it took to find his answer. Unless one’s car is the tallest structure in the vicinity, this is not a problem. Another question people ask during the hotter summer months is whether the weight of the car oil should be greater. In this case, most manufacturers and mechanics state that it is good to use thicker oil in the summer, it is best too make sure that it isn’t too thick. And it is best to check the make, the model and the year, for the specifications in regards to oil weight. Newer models run on thinner oil in general. In general, tire pressure should be regularly checked. In the Cooper tire, and all tires, the air expands and contracts due to the heat, and can loose pressure more rapidly.
And be aware that thicker oil will take a longer time to heat up, and if one is concerned with economy of fuel, this will be decreased with the use of thicker oil. And as far as coolant, some people just fill their radiators with straight water. This is not necessarily a good idea. Even during the summer months, it is best to use a mix of water and coolant at a fifty-fifty ratio. Many coolants these days come mixed in the right proportions, right off of the store shelves.
