Hampton VA, remember ing the fall

As a kid we would always go to Hampton, VA in the fall to visit my grandparents. They had a summer home there on the Chesapeake Bay near the campus of Hampton University. We would go down in the fall to spend the last warm days on the beaches there that by that time, early October, would be nearly empty. The sun would be working its way lower on the horizon and would cast long golden shadows across the white sands even in mid day. My grandfather and I would comb the beach as the tide would be going out for shells, stones, wood and bits and pieces of glass, porcelain and clay tumbled smooth by the combined actions of the sand and the ocean waves. Grandma would make the best dinners we would eat early on the porch in the light of the setting sun. These are some of the best memories of my childhood there on the beaches of Chesapeake Bay.
Years have passed and I have not been back to Hampton since my college days. My grandparents have passed the summer house sold a long time ago, but the memories live on. I have been curious about what it is like there today, I know it mush have changed a lot. I am sure the summer homes my grandparents and their friends occupied are now full time residences. But all in all I still want to go and see what its like there now.
I made reservations for weekend this fall at hotels Hampton so I can be there in Hampton at the same time of the year I use to visit as a child. I’ll be there for a long weekend and the hotel is near where my grandparent use to live. I look forward to roaming those beaches once again and seeing what has not has not changed in all these year
