San Francisco Opera for our Anniversary

I took my wife to the San Francisco Bay area for our 5 year anniversary. I planned it as a surprise and let me tell you that was not easy! For one thing I am not good a lying and have a really hard time not giving myself away when it comes to trying to do something on the sly. But I have to say proudly that right up till the last moment she had no idea what I was up to. I think I actually was able to make her think I was going to completely forget about our anniversary.

It really took some planning to pull this one off. I had a friend book the hotel San Francisco on his credit card so my wife would not see the charge on our statement. I also had him buy us the tickets to the opera the evening of our anniversary. It just so happened that the San Francisco War Memorial Opera would be putting on a production of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, that seemed fitting for an anniversary opera. Getting all that done was fairly easy compared to figuring out how my wife was going to take time off work without even knowing she need to take time off.

i could not think of any other way, that did not include telling her what was up, but to call her boss and explain what I was up to. Fortunately her boss was very understanding and said she would put my wife’s day off as a personal day so she would miss any pay or use up any vacation time. Perfect I thought!

So now everything is in place air line tickets, hotel room and tickets to the opera. A perfect anniversary weekend was now planned. I was so excited that I could hardly contain myself, another problem in trying to keep it secret.

Well the morning arrived for us to depart for San Francisco. I had packed us bags with essentials for the trip and some casual cloths. Another part of the anniversary gift will be a new outfit for my wife to wear to the opera, we will be shopping for that in San Francisco. Anyway I told her we need to do some shopping to get her out of the house and into the car. It wasn’t until I was heading into the air port I reveled my plans and she was truly surprised! I can’t believe I pulled it off and we had a great time!
