Cape Town vineyards are become known world wide for the different varieties of grapes, and the production of some of the best warm weather wines in the business. Traveling through the wineries, touring and tasting the wines, has become a favorite past-time for the people of the country of South Africa and is the perfect way for the tourist to experience one of the many aspects of the life in the country. Many of these tours are great for the first time visitor and while it is a day trip to the Vineyards, unless you are wanting to spend the night, it is great to have a driver for the ride back to the city after a day spent sipping on wine. And again, as it is just as easy to get there and back on your own, having a driver will allow you to fully take in the scenery as you are passing through some of the most majestic mountain ranges of the country.
The towns located along the way are charming, filled with historic monuments and homestead as well as the many markets located on the sides of the roads selling the produce from one of the many fruit orchards. The regions of the Breede River Valley, where the vineyards and the orchards are located are fertile and lush, and the areas of Paarl, Somerset West, and Franschloek are some of the most beautiful. Franschloek is known as the Cape’s French Corner. In all the world, this is one of the most amazing wine valleys. It is just a short trip from Cape Town, just about forty-five minutes. Not only will one find some incredible French varieties, but some of the finest of French restaurants as well. The French and Dutch occupations over the years have left their mark on the current culture of the area. There are French antique stores and many galleries and coffee shops on the main street of the small wine town. This is just one of the many wineries worth visiting when making the wine tours through the country of South Africa.
