Corruption is often defined as the abuse of position and of power, for individual gain.  However, it is much more than that, for not is there just a gain involved.  The gain involves and is a necessary element of the expense that it has on other individuals, companies, and even entire communities and countries.  Corruption is socially, ethically, morally, politically and economically detrimental and impacts are sometimes so great that those involved can never recover.  Corruption and deception have existed through the history of humanity, however they have become more prevalent beginning in the twentieth century.  It exists in corporate business and finance, to education, and even the entertainment industry.  All organized businesses or systems are susceptible to the illness.  As, in the way an illness starts out slow, and then either gradually or rapidly affects the entire body, so too does corruption.   One corrupt politician can create the reputation of an entire society as being corrupt, regardless whether or not that society does not support the corruption.

Many believe that the whole of the political realm is corrupt and that that is the root cause of all corruption, from that in police departments to the court rooms.  These are three groups that most everyone assumes and believes to be corrupt.  Throughout history, it has been found that in most cases where the political systems are corrupt, the people of those societies are generally living in poverty.  Corruption affects the poor of a particular culture in the greatest degree.  Politicians are supposed to act with interest of those they govern in mind.  Politicians are among the most recognizable faces in a society, yet not much is known about their personal businesses affairs or transactions.  The concept of transparency is one that has begun to be investigated, and the ideas that nothing should be allowed to be kept hidden.  All actions should remain transparent.  This is also true when considering the financial holdings of politicians, they must be held accountable for honesty and integrity, and by opening up certain information to the public this might serve to prevent politicians from activities such as bribery, extortion or other illegal activities in the realm of corruption.

With the economic make-up of the USA map becoming more diverse every year, eyes will be on the 2010 Census. The census is a source of population, housing, economic and geographic data. It is taken every ten years. A few tidbits into census history reveal how important the documentation really is to the history of the United States.

*The first Census of the US map was taken in 1790. The procedure at that time was federal Marshals went door to door and unannounced and resulted in a count of 3.9 million people.

* Data from the 1860 census of the United States map was used to measure relative military strengths and manufacturing abilities of the Union and the Confederacy.

* The 1910 survey of the US Map reveals industrial statistics to plan for the war effort.

* The 1930 census, with the onset of the Great Depression, prompts the Bureau to make inquiries about unemployment, migration and income.

* In the 1950 census of the USA map,  the first electronic digital computer tabulates the figures 1,000 to 1 million times faster than previous methods.

* The 1970 census asks for the very first time in the history of the census for people of Hispanic or Spanish descent are asked to identify themselves.

* After the 1980 census of the United States Map,the Bureau has 54 lawsuits filed against them, many from civil rights groups. They alleged improper and unconstitutional counting )methods.

* The 2000 census is the first to be backed by a national advertising campaign.

The Census is important because the counts help the government to decide how to allocate their resources for the next ten years. And sometimes political and district lines can be redrawn to change voting outcomes. The census is an important part of America’s past and future. Don’t forget to be counted!
