The field of public relations has come a long way in the last decade. Press releases, launch parties, and planted news items were once the standard way of calling attention to a new brand, company, or product. They could also be wielded by experienced PR experts to help improve the reputation of individuals and companies after bad press. Those tools are still available, though they have been adapted to a post-internet world. Press releases now go out through email and news feeds and executives like Daniel Drimmer , CEO of Starlight Apartments, are as likely to be interviewed on a popular real estate blog as by a Canadian newspaper.

Good PR today includes not just traditional channels like print, radio and television, but online channels like social media. Being able to create a coherent social media presence and leverage that presence to generate positive attention and buzz is the key to protecting the online reputation of any company, individual or brand.

Sites like Facebook and Twitter allow individuals and brands to interact directly with both customers and the public at large. This type of direct contact was impossible 20 years ago. Donald Trump can respond to tweets from fans and critics alike and the top companies use Facebook to promote contests and products and to get immediate feedback from fans on everything from commercials to new product lines. A good PR campaign is going to make use of these social conversations in order to build a loyal following.

Business executives are learning that a well-written and maintained profile on a site like LinkedIn can be a cornerstone to their online reputation. By setting up a profile, such as Daniel Drimmer on LinkedIn , they can network with clients, vendors, college friends, and press contacts. Linked In usually ranks high in the search engines for individuals and companies that have active profiles, making it a good way to get positive news on the web with little effort.

It is important that the social media match the intent of the given PR campaign. It would do no good to publicize a product targeted to senior citizens on a social site that is populated by tweens. Knowing which sites are appropriate to a given PR objective is half the battle. Then it’s just a matter of tailoring the content to match the intent and then implementing the plan.

Public Relations in Los Angeles

While an informal version of public relations has occurred for centuries, what is commonly known as “public relations” began in the early half of the last century. In the few decades from then to now, there have been dozens of definitions for these words as the needs of those people in need of it have changed. In Hollywood, the need for public relations is about as high as it is anywhere, with public relation teams as ubiquitous as lawyers in Los Angeles.
In 1982, the Public Relations Society of America defined it as “helping an organization and its publics adapt mutually to each other.” In the movie industry, this pertains to studios and networks, certainly, but also to individual celebrities, as they protect their reputations. The concept of the movie star has grown alongside the idea of public relations, with many high-powered actors and actresses (and not so high-powered) hiring PR people to represent and even develop a public face.

The need for these activities is clear when one reviews Hollywood actors of the past and the kind of publicity they were prone to receive. Take, for example, one of the most iconic of Hollywood actresses, Lana Turner. At the age of 16, she was “discovered” in Hollywood and signed to a film contract by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Usually, she played ing ©nue roles, such as in Love Finds Andy Hardy from 1938 or Ziegfeld Girl from 1941. She became a femme fatale in The Postman Always Rings Twice in 1946 and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in Peyton Place in 1957. These roles established the way people think of Lana Turner today, but the following year she had an experience that would shake up her life and her reputation.

In 1958, her lover, Johnny Stompanato was stabbed to death by her own daughter, Cheryl Crane. Stompanato called himself John Steele. Turner discovered he was a gangster, but she didn’t end her relationship with him. She attempted to see him less publically, particularly at the Oscars, and when he found he couldn’t take her to the awards performance, he beat her. She didn’t take legal action because she feared to get out of the relationship because the publicity would damage her career.

Her daughter, distraught over the violence the man brought into her family’s life, killed him. Lana Turner, testifying in court, made for riveting stories, especially because in the balance was the fate of her daughter – whether she would be freed or convicted of murder. The courts ruled that Cheryl actions were justified homicide.

Public relations weren’t at the level of a high art as it nearly is today, and the roles Lana Turner received became increasingly few. Today, every moment of such a case would be handled by public relations experts, and television and movie actors alike look for a public relations consultant as often as they do an LA lawyer.

With the constant evolution of technology, companies are turning to new means of advertising and marketing. These new changes have sparked all kinds of creative new ideas and ways of reaching the public.

The first way is obviously through the internet. A company’s website is crucial to the survival and promotion of their brand and to informing the public. Many companies have turned to professional web developers to make sure that their website is exciting, informative and effective. Social media marketing has become extremely important to the promotion of a company, as it is a free outlet to market their brand. While traditionally, twitter and facebook were used for individual purposes, now more and more businesses are creating these accounts. The internet is a very effective marketing tool but many businesses have turned to even more creative ways to get their name out into the general public. This company had a custom skin designed for the car which promotes their name and has their contact information on the car, when people see them driving on the street they immediately know it is a Transglobe car. Another fad that seems to be picking up is the flash mob. While this is typically not used for corporate promotion, the idea is very effective as it is quickly spread through all kinds of media. A flash mob consists of a group of people who plan to perform a synchronized dance or movement at a certain time to spark interest and attention. They usually take place in a heavily trafficked area and at a peak trafficked time.

Although the downturn of the economy has presented many challenges for many people, it has caused many to utilize their creative abilities to create new content and advertising techniques.

What is Money Laundering?

The illegal transfer of funds and assets is called money laundering. This is a criminal act in and of itself, that is the result of either previous different criminal acts such as embezzlement or the sale and distributions of drugs, or the indicator of further intentions of committing acts of corruption such as the financing of terrorism. This is a common crime for white and blue collar criminals. The attempts to inhibit the access to the means of this form of corruption has the effect of the prosecution of multiple charges in one fail swoop, through one investigation.

This was evident a few weeks ago in the sting operation that involved rabbis and political officials in the American states of New York and New Jersey. Not only were charges brought upon the criminals involving fraud and racketeering, but money laundering as well. Many laws have been passed by the United States Congress throughout the years, including the Currency Transaction Reports, and the statutes that involve Anti-Money Laundering regulations. These serve to criminalize the act of moving assets and the use of the wealth and profits gained through criminal acts.

Many citizens feel that some of the laws regarding the surveillance of all banking transactions is and invasion of the privacy of the acts of legitimate transactions. Some fear that although their transactions are legally based, that a glitch in the system may result in the prosecution of innocent people. This is an unnecessary worry in this day and age the procedures that outline investigations are thorough and are guided by a strict set of checks and balances. For just as no institution desires to be connected to corrupt and criminal activity, neither do the organizations whose goals are to end corruption wish to gain the reputation of repeatedly convicting innocent citizens.

The Evolution of the Spa

The modern day spa can trace its origins back to antiquity. Archaelogical evidence from prehistoric times indicates that hot springs in France and Czechoslovakia in the Bronze Age may have been precursors of modern day spa resorts. Mankind has considered hot and cold springs to be curative down through the ages. Some early civilizations believed that bathing in a particular type or body of water could provide spiritual purification or physical remedies. These included Babylonians, Egytians, Native Americans, Persians, Greeks, and, of course, Romans.

The name “spa” can be traced to Roman times to a town in Belgium named Spa, which was previously known as Aquae Spadanae. The name is believed to be related to the word “spagere” which means “to scatter, sprinkle or moisten” in Latin. The Romans famously practiced a form of medicinal bathing. Another possible origin names a spring called Espa (the Walloon word for “fountain”) which was believed in medieval times to offer a cure for iron deficiency. In this case, patients would drink the water rather than bathe in it. In the 16th century the English entered the picture. Towns such as Bath revived the Roman medicinal bathing practices and hot springs were discovered in Yorkshire and the first spa resort, called The English Spaw, was created in 1596. Eventually, idea of a spa as a place for water drinking gave way to the use of spa to mean external treatments.

In the 18th century, a revival in the use of spring water swept through some European countries with Dr. David Beecher insisting that certain exercises needed to be completed before a patient could partake of the water. Slowly, physical exercise became part of the spa regimen. In the 19th century, the importance of cleaniness led to external bathing gaining prominence over drinking the waters. During this era, dietary restriction were added to the bathing and exercise. Spas developed elaborate “prescriptions” that involved a sequence of carefully timed actions that start to resemble the modern day spa treatment. European spas also offered recreational activities such as sight-seeing, theater productions, and outdoor sports to complement the spa treatments. In the United States, a similar resurgence of spas occurred. by the late 1930s there were more than 2,000 “health resorts” operating in the US.

Critics began to argue that the thermal waters found in hot springs were no different, medically speaking, than regular heated water. That criticism combined with the Great Depression and the realities of World War II, led to a severe decline in spas by the 1950s. Modern spas have all but abandoned the public bathing aspects of their predecessors. They choose to focus on diet and exercise as well as body treatments such as massage and facials.

Traveling with My Maps

I love to travel. In fact, I love to travel more than anything else in my life. I was cleaning out a drawer the other day and I found my printable map of the world. I use this map to decide where I want to go on vacation.

I got several maps of Italy and a map of Japan. I’m thinking about planning a couple of trips to those countries. The only problem is that both trips will require at least two weeks away from the office. This normally isn’t a problem but my go-to-guy just left.

I think what I’ll do is plan for one and then maybe plan a trip to a state that I’ve never been to like Rhode Island or Tennessee. I think that those two states will have very different cultures and it might end up being like visiting another country.

Wimbledon tennis championship coverage

My son recently asked me if he could take tennis lessons. I was very surprised by this because he’s always been into soccer and he only plays tennis occasionally. I guess what got his interest was the Wimbledon tennis championship coverage that we watched last year. My son didn’t want to miss a single match!

In fact, when he did miss the coverage, he made sure he caught the highlights when he got home. I don’t know where he could take lessons at since he plays baseball and soccer. But I suppose he will find the time if he wants to take lessons that bad.

We made a date to watch all of the main sets as a family this year when the third of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments is back.

Auto Rims equals more value

I needed big car rims to make my car look good. Now the auto rims that I had weren’t bad. It’s just that I had some money to blow so I thought I would treat myself. Then I could sell my old rims and make some money and afford to get my windows tinted.

Then I decided that I needed automobile tires. Again, the ones that I had were fine, but they were looking a little old. I put black on them to make them appear to be new but they wouldn’t.

My brother told me that having rims increases the value of your car and people are less likely to accidentally hit you, like in a parking lot, when they notice that your car is detailed and has accessories. I wanted to see if this was true but I haven’t noticed anyone almost hitting me.
