I was asked recently to compare two newswire services PRWeb and Businesswire. We use mainly use PRWeb as our newswire service. PRWeb are a news wire service that is focused on online news releases and is popular with SEO companies. Businesswire has been in business for over 40 years and are a traditional business news service and is popular with public relations companies.
Public relations companies have generally speaking been slow to embrace the Internet. This is not a negative comment about them just an observation. I have done some research on the industry and it seems like there is a reluctance to embrace new technologies. This may be due to the personalities of old school PR representative who rely more on networking and speaking directly with media contacts. The advances brought about by the web are more heavily weighted on technological skills. I’m sure more and more will embrace the advantages that online business will have for them in the future.
Search focuses wire services can keep their costs down by utilizing technology. Everything is done online whereas some of the old school wire services still rely to some extent on hardcopy.
